MyZone a transport test the government must pass

18 April 2010

The Sydney Business Chamber said Monday would be a test of the NSW Government’s transport credentials and its ability to deliver a better public transport experience for commuters.

"The first real test of MyZone on Monday will be make or break time for the Government and its transport agenda," said Patricia Forsythe, Executive Director of the Sydney Business Chamber.

"No one wants to see MyZone fail on Monday. We all want the Government to succeed on this.

"The Premier has to ensure the transition to MyZone is achieved with a minimal disruption to commuters - there can be no blaming bureaucrats if things go wrong tomorrow.

"Business is looking forward to and supporting a successful transition to the new system."

Mrs Forsythe said MyZone was an important step forward on the road to an electronic integrated ticketing system that was now a decade overdue and a failure of MyZone could set back integrated ticketing even longer.

"I encourage the NSW Government to ensure all ticket machines and windows are operating and additional staff are on hand to assist commuters with the new system tomorrow.

"Sydneysiders have been disappointed with the NSW Government’s response and handling of recent transport issues. This is an opportunity for the Government to show it can deliver better transport for Sydney."
