Improving Infrastructure Symposium

NSW Business Chamber held the Improving Infrastructure symposium on Wednesday 20 May 2009.

Key stakeholders from across NSW came together to discuss new ideas on how to fund new infrastructure, how to deliver it quickly and efficiently through the planning system, what areas of infrastructure needed to be addressed and how to secure how water and power over the long term.

Key points discussed at the symposium were:

  • The importance of integrated State plans for transport, planning, water and energy.

  • The necessity of public sector reform to encourage bold decision making and the adoption of the best possible practices.

  • Maintaining and upgrading existing infrastructure is just as important as providing new infrastructure.

  • The State’s capital budget must be consistent with forecast growth rates of New South Wales’ population and economy.

  • The effectiveness of public-private partnerships hinges on risks being shared appropriately.

NSW Business Chamber video-recorded each of the discussions which will be posted on this website as well as reports and slideshows used by the key speakers.
